The independent craft brewer seal was launched in June 2017 by the Brewers Association (BA), the membership organization dedicated to promoting and protecting small and independent craft brewers in the United States. Kalispell Brewing Company is a proud member of the Montana contingent of the BA, along with a growing base of 42 other Montana craft breweries.
Many of us attended the Craft Brewers Conference (CBC) in Nashville this year, which is an annual gathering organized by the BA to showcase new trends, share ideas and push BA initiatives. One of those initiatives, intended to lift the veil of what is being sold to consumers as independently made craft beer in the U.S., is the certified independent craft brewers seal. The logo is designed as an upside down beer bottle, which symbolizes how the U.S. craft beer movement has literally turned the beer industry on its head worldwide.
KBC’s new cans of Cloudcroft IPA have incorporated the independent craft seal in our can designs.
As the American craft brewing scene grows (by nearly 1,000 breweries in 2017), we find that consumers can get lost in a saturated beer market. The independent craft seal is meant to show transparency and promote support in independently and locally made craft beer.
The importance of this seal reverberated through the convention center halls at the CBC with an excited energy. Brewers and brewery owners have intense pride in their craft, in the beers we make for the masses. Our blood, sweat and tears go into every drop (figuratively, of course). Kalispell Brewing Company placed the seal on our new cans of Cloudcroft IPA to make a statement. Not only does this label instill trust in your product, but it means two other important things. It means that by buying independent beer, you’re putting your money back into your community or the community you’re choosing to support, and it comes with an army of dedicated brewers behind it.
Our new Cloudcroft IPA cans will be available in stores in the Flathead Valley and West Glacier during the week of May 14th. In the meantime, you can buy them in our taproom on Main Street in downtown Kalispell!
Choose local, choose independent, and #seektheseal.
